So this is us. This is my family. I posted recently about two white police officers stopping me walking home from school. I’ve reblogged photos about oppression and how tired I am about the hypocrisies of America—land of the “free.” Being adopted in a white family it took longer for me to truly realize what it’s like to be black in America because you have this mindset that if your own white family loves you, then  everyone does. Naive? Maybe. I mean I read about racism in books and saw it on TV and even on the streets on occasion, but I was admittedly still so blind. I’m angry about being stared at, being the butt of an offensive joke and hearing white kids who listen to Kanye find it acceptable to call me their “nigga.” I go to an all white school in Orange County so “what else did I expect?” Having said this let it be clear that while I am angered by the atrocities and views an unacceptable amount of Americans have toward black people this does not mean I am bitter towards every one of them I see. Just look at my family. The gift of being in an interracial family is seeing two sides to the world and has showed me that love is possible between anyone. Some days when I turn on the news or read an article that pertains to ignorant white Americans I have to stop myself from thinking ‘how fucking awful white people are’—-because its so easy to fall into darkness and hate. I’m blessed and have proof that this country has the capability to get along through my gorgeous family and amazing friends. People who would give their life for me. We can do this, America. I have faith. Want proof? Just look above.
